The Hart of Adventure Camp

When it comes to choosing our staff, we are highly selective. While most of our staff comprises former Adventure Campers, on rare occasions, we meet someone of exceptional talent and character who will come aboard. Each counselor must genuinely love being among children, possess a strong sense of responsibility, and have an honest and direct personal style. Before each new season begins, our counselors participate in special training sessions. We review safety and logistics and discuss the critical need to treat each child with personal attention and respect.

Christian Hart

Camp Owner & Executive Director

Christian Hart joined the Adventure Camps team from Long Island, New York. As the eldest child in a large family, he grew up surrounded by kids, learning early on how to structure play for children of various ages. While on the East Coast, Christian gained ten years of childcare experience and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling.

Christian became a part of the Adventure Camps team in 2015 and, after nearly nine years, became the camp owner in 2024.

  • Driven by his passion for kids, play, and education, Christian relocated to San Francisco and immediately recognized Adventure Camp as the perfect fit. The camp’s playful energy, spontaneous approach, and outdoor adventures aligned seamlessly with his personality and experience.

As Owner and Executive Director, Christian oversees the daily structure and operations of all Adventure Camp programs. He prioritizes the safety and happiness of every child in his care with unwavering dedication. When not at camp, Christian is a devoted family man and father of two, channeling his expertise in childcare around the clock.

THE VANS

Where the Journey is the Adventure

Our vans have always been a magical space for children—the adventure begins the moment they step inside. Far more than just transportation, Adventure Camp vans are an integral part of our program. Both our counselors and drivers, trained personally by owner Christian Hart, ensure every journey is safe, engaging, and memorable. Many of our counselors were once young campers themselves, riding in those very same vans, making their transition to leadership a uniquely meaningful experience.

Over the years, the children have found the perfect name for each van. Our current vans are Snow WhiteWhite Lighting, White Rabbit, and Great White. Our retired vans include Green MachineSliding BlueBig BeigeGrey Wolf, and Cool Blue.

Have more questions?

The FAQs
  • Adventure Camp is a completely mobile day camp. Rather than being a facility-based program, we run our camps from our counselor-driven vans. Every day is a new destination and an exciting new adventure.

  • Every day is different. For Summer Camps, we love to explore the Bay Area's beautiful parks, playgrounds, and beaches. We visit many places, from Coyote Point Park in San Mateo to Tilden Park in Berkeley and in between. For most School Year and Vacation Camps, mainly frequenting San Francisco, we explore Golden Gate Park, the Forts (Fort Miley, Funston, Mason, Point, etc.), Beaches, and Playgrounds; the possibilities are endless. But it’s not just about where we go. At Adventure Camps, the real difference is that no matter where we are, the children are safe, having fun, and feeling great about themselves.

  • We accept kids as young as four and as old as 12. Although we frequently have alum campers 13 and older returning to camp as helpers, CITs, and junior counselors.

  • Many of our campers still need to be water-safe, and we are fully aware of their needs and skill levels. Though our camps swim at facilities where lifeguards are present at all times, we recognize that we are responsible for all of our campers at all times, and we are lifeguards as well. We ensure our campers are safe and having fun within their safety limits!

  • Booster seats are available in our vans for campers who need them. We have campers of all ages and sizes, so if you’d like your child to ride in one, just let us know.

  • Many of our campers have food allergies. We pay close attention to our campers' dietary needs. Campers may bring any food that they like to camp. If your child has any allergies,  please get in touch with us with any details, directions, and the severity.

  • Each place we go is given thoughtful consideration. We have spent the last 51 years refining our adventures and only choosing completely safe locations. Our camps rarely venture to crowded places, as we prefer to explore off-the-beaten-path Adventure Camp Style.  When we do take our adventures to busier locations, our staff’s focus is never off of our campers. Safety is always our highest priority. This is one of the reasons Adventure Camps has been so popular for over half a century.
